A kitchen renovation is one of the most transformative — and most disruptive — projects you can undertake. Knowing what to expect at each stage helps you plan your temporary kitchen, manage deliveries, and stay sane.
Week 1–2: Design and Specification
Before demolition begins, your design should be finalised. This includes cabinet layouts, appliance specifications, tile selections, countertop material, and plumbing positions. Rushing this phase is the single biggest cause of delays and cost overruns. At OT Remodelacoes, we insist on a fully approved design and signed materials list before breaking ground.
Week 3–4: Demolition and Rough Work
Existing cabinets, flooring, and sometimes walls come out. Plumbing and electrical rough-in happens here — new positions for the sink, dishwasher, hob, and extractor fan are established. This is often when hidden surprises appear: old copper pipes, uneven walls, or insufficient electrical capacity.
Week 5–8: Materials Lead Time
Premium materials — custom cabinetry, engineered stone countertops, specialty tiles — often require 4–8 weeks from order to delivery. Plan this window carefully. In Cascais, most suppliers are based in greater Lisbon and can deliver to site quickly once stock is confirmed.
Week 9–11: Installation Phase
Cabinets go in first, followed by countertops (templated after cabinets are fixed), then tiles, then appliances, then plumbing and electrical connections. A well-sequenced installation avoids damage and rework.
Week 12: Snagging and Handover
A snagging walk-through identifies any touch-ups, alignment issues, or incomplete items. At OT Remodelacoes, we do not consider a project closed until every snag is resolved and you are satisfied.
Tips for Cascais Kitchens
Coastal humidity affects material choices. Opt for UV-stable cabinet finishes, corrosion-resistant hardware, and grout sealants rated for wet environments. Our team has extensive experience with the specific conditions in Cascais and Estoril seafront properties.
